What is Climate Change? | Start Here
The hard facts about global warming - a defining issue of our time.
Climate change is happening now, and even world leaders meeting for climate talks at this year’s Cop25 know we aren’t doing enough to stop it.
In fact, we’re going backwards. The UN says carbon dioxide levels in our atmosphere are going up, and the earth is on track to warm by 3.2 degrees before the century is over. The consequences of that acceleration are already proving disastrous for communities around the world.
This week’s episode of Start Here cuts through the science and the politics, to get you what you need to know about what’s at stake for the planet.

Climate change IPCC report is 'code red for humanity', UN scientists say - BBC News
Heating from humans has caused irreparable damage to the Earth that may get worse in coming decades, a UN climate report has concluded.
Humanity's damaging impact on the climate is a "statement of fact", UN scientists have found in unprecedented research combining more than 14,000 studies.
The past five years have been the hottest on record since 1850. Extremes including heatwaves have become more frequent and more intense since the 1950s, while cold events have become less frequent and less severe.
The authors also show that a rise in sea levels approaching 2m by the end of this century "cannot be ruled out".

Climate Change Explained Simply
A straightforward explanation of Climate Change: the heat from human emissions is roughly equal to exploding 400,000 Hiroshima atomic bombs every day. Historically, every time carbon dioxide levels increase in Earth's atmosphere, the average surface temperature increases, ice melts, and the seas rise.

Climate change deniers host conference in Sin City
Today US Vice-President Kamala Harris is travelling to Lake Mead in Nevada to talk up the President’s climate agenda. It’s the biggest reservoir in the US, but it’s drying up because of the twin effects of the heat and the drought, both of which are exacerbated by climate change.

And it’s where we also went this weekend to see the impact for ourselves and to attend a climate change denial conference in Sin City in Las Vegas.
A report shared with this programme reveals the extent and potential danger of climate disinformation.

Extreme weather, rising sea levels, devastating floods - The global climate crisis | DW Documentary
Extreme weather is occurring more frequently worldwide. Rising sea levels and heavy rain are causing devastating floods. Most researchers agree that these are the consequences of climate change. But what can we do to protect ourselves?
In July 2021, the Ahr Valley in western Germany was hit by a flash flood after heavy rainfall. Over 100 people were killed, thousands of homes were severely damaged. Experts are calling it the ‘flood of the century’. Yet extreme weather events such as the Ahr Valley floods have become more frequent in recent years - not only in Germany but worldwide. Mozambique has been hit by devastating cyclones for the third year running. In Bangladesh, the monsoon season has become heavier and more unpredictable due to climate change. More and more land has been flood...

Never before in human history have we been richer, more advanced or powerful. And yet we feel overwhelmed in the face of rapid climate change. It seems simple on the surface. Greenhouse gases trap energy from the Sun and transfer it to our atmosphere. This leads to warmer winters, harsher summers. Dry places become drier and wet places wetter. Countless ecosystems will die while the rising oceans swallow coasts and the cities we build on them.
So why don’t we just like… prevent all of that? Well, it’s complicated.

Climate Change is just too much. There is never any good news. Only graphs that get more and more red and angry. Almost every year breaks some horrible record, from the harshest heat waves to the most rapid Glacier melt. It’s endless and relentless.
We have known for decades that rapid Climate Change is being caused by the release of Greenhouse Gases. But instead of reducing them, in 2019 the world was emitting 50% more CO2 than in the year 2000. And emissions are still rising. Why is that? Why is it so hard to just stop emitting these gases?

Heating from humans has caused irreparable damage to the Earth that may get worse in coming decades, a UN climate report has concluded.
Humanity's damaging impact on the climate is a "statement of fact", UN scientists have found in unprecedented research combining more than 14,000 studies.
The past five years have been the hottest on record since 1850. Extremes including heatwaves have become more frequent and more intense since the 1950s, while cold events have become less frequent and less severe.
The authors also show that a rise in sea levels approaching 2m by the end of this century "cannot be ruled out".

Take action on climate change at http://countdown.ted.com.
2021 is a critical year for climate change. According to the Paris Climate Agreement, governments must decide now on how to reduce the amount of carbon they pump into the atmosphere in order to avoid the most devastating consequences of global warming. So, are we on track to limit global warming to only 1.5 degrees Celsius? The Climate Action Tracker explains the good news and the bad news for the planet. (Updated June 2021)
This talk was part of the Countdown Global Launch on 10.10.2020. (Watch the full event here: https://youtu.be/5dVcn8NjbwY.) Countdown is TED's global initiative to accelerate solutions to the climate crisis. The goal: to build a better future by cutting greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030, in the race to a zero-carbon world. Get involved at https://countdown.ted.com/sign-up

Today US Vice-President Kamala Harris is travelling to Lake Mead in Nevada to talk up the President’s climate agenda. It’s the biggest reservoir in the US, but it’s drying up because of the twin effects of the heat and the drought, both of which are exacerbated by climate change.

More and more land has been flooded as a result. At the same time, heavy storms that cause flooding and rising sea levels threaten the south of the country. Experts estimate that 30 per cent of Bangladesh will be permanently flooded in a few years, making millions of people climate refugees.
Wealthy countries such as Germany are now investing billions in the battle against the floods. The Netherlands have long pioneered in flood management, building powerful pumping stations, ever higher dikes and flood barriers. None of these options are available to poor countries. All they can do, along with improving early flood warning systems, is to resettle the people affected. The film ‘Global Climate Crisis - How to Tackle the floods?’ shows the unequal fight against the consequences of climate change with examples from Germany, the Netherlands, Bangladesh, and Mozambique.

When we hear the phrase ‘Global Warming’ or ‘Climate Change’, it stirs up a certain sense of apocalyptic dread. And rightfully so. We SHOULD be scared of Global Warming. It’s a situation that, for a long time now, has only been getting worse. And it’s almost at the point of no return. In March of 2019, expert speakers at the General Assembly Hall warned that we had merely 11 years to prevent irreversible damage brought about by climate change. But how plausible is it that we can do what is needed within that time range? And just how close are we to disaster?

The Cost to Reduce Global Warming? $131 Trillion Is One Answer | WSJ
Money is a sticking point in climate-change negotiations around the world. As economists warn that limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius will cost many more trillions than anticipated, WSJ looks at how the funds could be spent, and who would pay. Illustration: Preston Jessee/WSJ

Global Warming.
The thicker layer of greenhouse gases traps more heat.
This result in an increase in average temperature of the earth and the earth becomes hotter and hotter.
This is called global warming.
If we do not take steps to reduce global warming, it will lead to loss of human lives, plants and animals.
Steps to reduce global warming:
Plant more trees. Reduce, reuse and recycle. Use less hot water. Turn off electronic devices when not in use. Spread awareness.
Come on everybody, let us reduce global warming.

Gojira - Global Warming [Live at the Silver Cord Studio May 2018]
A few weeks ago, we played Global Warming together for the first time since the recording of From Mars To Sirius (2004). We never played it live before, as it is a challenging one to play, and place in a set list. It’s emotionally heavy, and would almost “hurt” the rest of the songs in a way. We just really wanted to do this on camera for our fans. Global warming is a reality and a relevant topic, we feel it’s good to be reminded of one of the most important challenges of our time: How to grow as a species without being a parasite to our planet, the only home we have. “We will see our children growing” is a mantra for future generations, and in a figurative way we hope the children in all of us will grow, evolve, and take action for a more compassionate and meaningful world.

G20: Will leaders commit to taking urgent steps to curb global warming? | DW News
Leaders from the world's 20 richest countries are making their way to Rome to kick off G20 talks, that will have a particular focus on climate change. The group is expected to commit to taking urgent steps to curb global warming. The draft agreement says members will commit to carbon neutrality, but the date is yet to be agreed upon. The G20 countries account for 80 percent of the world's greenhouse gas emissions.
As G20 leaders get to work discussing what they can do to fight climate change, a part of the world is severely affected by drought: Kenya - where parts of the north haven't seen rain for a year.
Failing crops are increasing food insecurity and the UN says more than 2 million people are at risk of starvation: children are among the most vulnerable. DW's Mariel Müller reports f...

Global Warming, recorded at Silver Cord Studio NY, April 2018
Engineered and mixed by Johann Meyer
Filmed by Anne Deguehegny and Bunny
Edited by Anne Deguehegny and Mario Duplantier

DW's Mariel Müller reports from Kenya. Her report contains distressing pictures.

DW's Mariel Müller reports from Kenya. Her report contains distressing pictures.

SUMMARY
=======
Climate Change 2007, the Fourth Assessment Report (AR4) of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), is the fourth in a series of reports intended to assess scientific, technical and socio-economic information concerning climate change, its potential effects, and options for adaptation and mitigation. The report is the largest and most detailed summary of the climate change situation ever undertaken, produced by thousands of authors, editors, and reviewers from dozens of countries, citing over 6,000 peer-reviewed scientific studies.
It supersedes the Third Assessment Report (2001), and is superseded by the Fifth Assessment Report.
The headline findings of the report were: "warming of the climate system is unequivocal", and "most of the observed increase in global average temperatures since the mid-20th century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations."

The IPCC Third Assessment Report, Climate Change 2001, is an assessment of available scientific and socio-economic information on climate change by the IPCC.The IPCC was established in 1988 by the United Nations Environment Programme and the UN's World Meteorological Organization "...to assess scientific, technical and socio-economic information relevant for the understanding of climate change, its potential impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation." The Third Assessment Report is the third of a series of assessments; it has been superseded by the IPCC Fourth Assessment Report , released in 2007.Statements of the IPCC or information from the TAR are often used as a reference showing a scientific consensus on the subject of global warming, although a small minority of scientists take issue with the UN assessments .
